Resident Evil 4 remake's infamously hard-to-find collector's edition is being scalped on eBay for up to $500, nearly twice its original asking price.

The long-awaited Resident Evil 4 remake is finally upon us and, while most of us will be celebrating Leon's return to Spain, those who tried to get a hold of the collector's edition are probably a little bit sour right now. Over the past month, the collector's edition has become infamously hard to find, with GameStop cancelling a ton of pre-orders for what was already a well-sought-after item.

As is the case with pretty much every collector's edition nowadays, the limited version of the Resident Evil 4 remake is now being scalped on eBay for much higher prices than it was being sold for. The Resi 4 collector's edition was retailing for $249.99, but some particularly brave eBay sellers are trying to earn double that, as many listings on the US version of the site are asking for around $500. The lowest price I could find on the US eBay was $350, which shocked me until I realised that it was the start of a bid and that it'd likely balloon up to $500 in time.

Although scalpers are the worst and these prices suck for fans of the series, considering most pre-orders for the collector's edition were seemingly cancelled, I'm surprised that it's not much much worse. Don't get me wrong, $500 is ridiculous and not worth it, but this collector's edition is one of the most infamous in recent memory for being hard to find, so I was expecting it to be worse.

Interestingly, it seems that stock in the UK was nowhere near as bad as it was in the US. The collector's edition was still out-of-stock for months and incredibly hard to get a hold of, but it's currently being scalped for around £350 on eBay in the UK, around £100 more than it was being sold for. Again, very pricey and almost definitely not worth it, but nowhere near as bad as some of the price hikes for God of War Ragnarok's Jotnar Edition and the Tears of the Kingdom collector's edition.
