Topping the list is Inside Out 2. Its current box office haul is USD 1.462 billion, according to Box Office Mojo. The theatrical experience is not dead after all, and even in the age of streaming, people would venture out of their homes to the cinemas if the movie is great and marketed well. Earlier, the movie surpassed USD 711.84 million of Dune: Part Two to become 2024’s highest-grossing movie. Notably, it is only the first movie after last year’s Barbie to surpass the coveted USD 1 billion mark.
Animated movies were once thought to be children’s Entertainment, but over the years, thanks mainly to Pixar and Ghibli movies as well as the global penetration of Japanese anime, they have evolved to offer richer storytelling and more complex themes. Let’s take a look at some of the highest-grossing animated movies of all time.
We are not including The Lion King (2019), the remake of the 1994 animated classic of the same name and one of the most expensive Disney movies ever made, on the list. Even if every single frame of the movie was rendered by computer software, it still looks photorealistic. The movies on this list, on the other hand, are animated in the more traditional sense, with the visuals cartoonish and exaggerated.
