Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers thinks it’s a ‘crime’ that he can’t give several of his fringe players more Game time.

It comes after the Hoops romped to a dominant 4-1 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday evening.

After a subdued first-half performance, Kyogo Furuhashi opened the scoring early in the second 45 before Nicolas Kuhn doubled the visitors’ advantage with a stunning finish on the breakaway.

Substitute striker Adam Idah then got in on the act with a brace on either side of Musa Drammeh’s emphatic consolation goal for the Jambos.

As the Game wore on and the Hoops’ lead extended, boss Rodgers made several changes, introducing Paulo Bernardo, Idah, Yang Hyun-jun, James Forrest, and Anthony Ralston.

Speaking post-match, the Celtic manager admitted it’s a ‘crime’ he can’t give those bhoys more Game time: “I’ve said it before, it’s a crime that I can’t play some of these players from the start,” Rodgers explained (The Celtic Way).

“But they know over this period that they’ll get starts, but it’s making an impact. Whether you start the game, come into the game, that’s the role that they play and sometimes they will do.

“So it’s just trying to manage the minutes of the players to make the team energetic and to keep that intensity. And we’re going to need that over the coming months.”

The Hearts triumph kicked off a gruelling run of Games for the Scottish Premiership champions. With no winter break in Scotland this year, there is no gap in the schedule until March next year.

Rodgers has shown previously that he isn’t shy about rotating the team, and with nine games alone until the new year, we will likely see continual changes over the next few weeks and months.

Particularly last night, Bernardo and Idah made noteworthy impacts on proceedings, giving the manager some dilemmas ahead of the visit of Club Brugge to Glasgow in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
