The Smithereens introduced their mix of energy pop, rock, and various rock to the gorgeous West Herr Riviera Theatre in North Tonawanda, NY, on Nov. twentieth, delivering a dynamic efficiency that celebrated their wealthy historical past and enduring enchantment. The historic venue, with its intricate structure and up to date amenities, supplied the proper setting for a night of nostalgic but vibrant music.
With their forty fifth anniversary approaching in March 2025, the band showcased why they continue to be icons within the rock world. Highlights included Jim Babjak stepping up for lead vocals on the poignant “Life is So Lovely” and Dennis Diken’s soulful activate “I Don’t Need to Lose You.” The band’s versatility shone as they transitioned from introspective ballads to high-energy covers of Sam Cooke’s “Chain Gang” and Badfinger’s “No Matter What”.
The night culminated with the electrifying “A Lady Like You,” a music that is still as contemporary and anthemic as when it first hit the airwaves. The viewers’s enthusiasm all through the night time was a testomony to the enduring energy of the Smithereens‘ music.
This efficiency was greater than a live performance; it was a celebration of a band that continues to resonate deeply with followers outdated and new. The Smithereens, alongside Robin Wilson and Graham Maby, proved that even after 45 years, their music nonetheless has the facility to unite and uplift.
