Things haven’t looked great for Halo developer 343 Industries lately with mass layoffs over at Microsoft heavily affecting the studio. The tech giant announced its plans to lay off around 10,000 employees by March 2023, which has also affected several other Xbox studios. Now, it seems Halo’s transmedia boss Kiki Wolfkill has exited 343.

As reported by VGC, this was spotted on Wolfkill’s Linkedin profile which says that her position as the transmedia studio head at 343 Industries has come to an end after nearly 14 years. Interestingly, she is still a part of Microsoft as her current position is “Head of Xbox IP Expansion and Entertainment”, which seems like a position looking at the macro rather than solely focusing on 343 projects.

Her job as a transmedia head saw her become one of the executive producers for the Paramount Plus Halo TV series. She joined 343 Industries in 2008, and has worked on several Halo projects since, including being the executive producer for Halo 4. Wolfkill is also a former racecar driver, who has used her driving experience to improve Xbox’s racing Games. Amongst the most notable ones, she has worked on Midtown Madness and Project Gotham Racing. She also served as the executive producer for the 2014's Halo: The Master Chief Collection and has been a part of Microsoft Game Studios since 1998.

Currently, her new role seems to be rather vague as it could mean that she would be involved in projects from other studios going forward. As for 343 Industries, its future looks increasingly uncertain for both the studio and Halo Infinite, as a report suggested that a quarter of its staff has been laid off. Despite criticism from former developers, Xbox boss, Phil Spencer, has assured that 343 is the “heart and soul” of Halo.

Besides Wolfkill, several high-level executives have already exited 343. For instance, studio founder Bonnie Ross quit in September 2022 due to family medical concerns. Halo Infinite’s multiplayer director Tom French left in December 2022, and its head of design Jerry Hook quit in May.
