Rodgers’ Interesting Comments On Recruitment Team’s Role in Record Signing
Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for club-record signing Arne Engels, who scored and assisted in Celtic’s resounding 5-1 win against Slovan Bratislava at Celtic Park this evening.
Engels replaced Matt O’Riley, who departed for a club-record fee, leaving big boots to fill.
The Belgian midfielder has already proven to be a valuable addition, scoring back-to-back goals from the penalty spot.
Rodgers said: (BBC Sport),”It was great identification by our recruitment team.
“We knew after last year what we wanted in the team which is someone who has all the ideas we want in terms of tactical and technical ability. But at this level you need to have a physicality and running power.
“We knew he was playing in a top league and we felt we could take him here and improve his Game.
“I’m pleased for him he gets his goal but the overall performance from him and the team was very pleasing.”
It’s welcome to hear Rodgers speak so kindly about the recruitment team.
In the Irishman’s second spell at the club, it has taken time to get player recruitment aligned, but it finally appears that both Rodgers and the scouting team are working as effectively as possible.
With Nicolas Kühn, Arne Engels, and Kasper Schmeichel all starring in a sensational 5-1 victory, the collaboration is clearly paying off.
