Callum McGregor has been a great captain for Celitc, taking the reigns from Scott Brown seamlessly.

He’s not at an age where he’s thinking about hanging up his boots just yet, and no one has hinted at that, but fans and pundits are already discussing who will, one day, take on the role.

The Celtic captain has retired from international Football, though, to focus on Celtic. It’s already bearing its fruits, with the midfielder fresh after the international break after he had a few days off, something he doesn’t normally get during a season.

One of the names that has been thrown in the ring is Alistair Johnston, and joining him is fellow defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The American defender has worn the armband on a few occasions for Celtic, taking on the responsibility when Callum McGregor isn’t on the field. However, Andy Walks believes that CCV can step up to the full-time role in the future.

He said: “The Games are coming thick and fast,” said Walker on Go Radio. “It was important and another reason that the likes of Welsh and Trusty got Game time.

“If you hear Brendan Rodgers talking about the potential seriousness of an injury to Carter-Vickers, you have to be ready to maybe take his place. That’s why Welsh and Trusty were given the minutes (against Falkirk). That’s the last thing you want.

“He is a great leader. He is sort of captain material, Carter-Vickers. The last thing you want is for him to be out of the team in these big Games coming up.”

Carter-Vickers has been a great signing for Celtic. He initially arrived during Ange Postecoglou’s first summer window at Celtic, signing a loan deal on deadline day.

Celtic had an option to buy included in the agreement, and the following summer, they triggered the clause.
