Has the United States ever not won the Presidents Cup?

Since it first teed off in 1994, the Presidents Cup has brought together some of the world’s greatest Golfers. The contest pits the might of the United States against an International team, featuring the elite from everywhere else, apart from Europe. They, of course, get the Ryder Cup.

Tiger Woods made eight appearances for the US, delivering some key performances, and in 2019, he served as a playing captain, leading his team to victory while becoming the youngest ever to captain a team in this contest aged 43 years, 347 days. Then there is Phil Mickelson, who has a record of 12 Presidents Cup appearances, and Davis Love III who made six, including being captain 2013.

International stars have come in the form of Ernie Els (South Africa), Vijay Singh (Fiji) and Adam Scott (Australia). Els played in eight Presidents Cups but was unable to lead his team to victory as captain in 2019. The single cup win for the International Team came in 1998

Who has won the Presidents Cup each year?

As stated above, the American team has only lost once in this contest while the only other blemish to a perfect win record came with the tied result in 2003. That means there have been 12 victories for the Stars and Stripes going into the 2024 edition.

In 1998, Peter Thompson’s team overcame that of Jack Nicklaus 20.5-11.5 at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia. In 2003 the tied score was 17-17 with Nicklaus again captaining the US team while Gary Player that of the global stars.

Across the 14 editions of the Presidents Cup, a total of 452 matches have been played. The United States secured victory in 220 of these matches, while the International team won 173, with 59 matches ending in a tie. Overall, the United States accumulated 249.5 points, surpassing the International team’s 202.5 points. Some facts that show it wasn’t always a one-sided affair, despite the final result.
