Michael Stewart tells Celtic where they ‘really need’ to strengthen after Hampden win
Celtic’s win over Aberdeen sent Brendan Rodgers into another Scottish Cup Final as the Irishman continues his incredible undefeated run in the comPetition.
Winning a Double Treble in his first tenure and taking Celtic to the quarter-final stage in 2019 before he left for Leicester, Rodgers‘ record in the tournament is imperious.
But it hasn’t been perfect in terms of performance. Saturday’s win over Aberdeen highlighted defensive issues even the Celtic players recognise but Michael Stewart has identified another key area where Celtic need to strengthen in the summer after watching the Hampden win.
James Forrest highlights a Celtic transfer ‘concern’
Stewart was commenting on the semi-final and when James Forrest was taken off in the final minutes, the BBC pundit said the fact Celtic are still relying on the legendary winger means that they must look to strengthen in the wide areas.
Stewart said [Premier Sports], “It’s a huge concern. Because he’s had a great impact for Celtic and you see him going off, it was such a disappointment.
“And. Perhaps, it just highlights why he has not had more of an impact in terms of gametime.
“It’s just good simple wing play. Attack the byeline, cut inside, mix it up, and do it at pace. And have an end product.
“To me, it’s highlighted where Celtic really need to strengthen. They are poor in the wide areas at the moment.”
MORE CELTIC STORIES
Hyunjun Yang was given the nod to start the Game against Aberdeen and clearly struggled to cope with the occasion.
Replaced by Forrest in the 60th minute, the 32-year-old winger contributed more in his first three minutes than Yang did in a whole hour.
Now that Rodgers seems to have control of all the Footballing departments, hopefully, the Celtic manager will get that long-awaited quality in the summer he has been longing for all season.
