Celtic winger James Forrest is involved with Scotland at EURO 2024 following his stellar end to the 2023/24 campaign.

The 32-year-old registered seven goals and two assists for the Bhoys across the season, playing an important part in their domestic double triumph [Transfermarkt].

Unfortunately, he was an unused substitute in the Tartan Army’s 5-1 defeat to Germany in their opening group match of the comPetition, where Scotland were second-best in every category compared to the hosts.

Steve Clarke’s men know they need to get a result against Switzerland this evening to keep alive realistic hopes of progressing from Group A, and Forrest has been cited as a potential problem-solver for his international manager.

Celtic veteran James Forrest tipped to face Switzerland

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, former Scottish Premiership striker Brian Graham, who now plies his trade with Partick Thistle, has tipped Forrest to be involved on the right-hand side for Scotland against Switzerland.

Graham stated: “Obviously, we don’t know what the formation is going to be, but I think we need to play James Forrest on the right-hand side. (He’s a) Ball carrier to drive us forward.

Later, he added: “The manager has got a dileMMA: who does he start, what formation does he play? He’s probably been working on that in the last couple of days I would imagine in training, and they’ll have a Game plan and hopefully, the message has always been very simple. Hopefully, it’s back to a simple message and the boys go out and do the job.”

Forrest possesses a unique ability to receive, carry, and distribute the ball, which makes him a threat, either in build-up phases or when putting the finishing touches to moves.

His final product has yielded over 100 goals and 100 assists in Celtic colours; however, with Clarke’s preference to operate with two wing-backs, it is unclear if he would fit into that system.

Either way, Scotland are in need of some creative inspiration and Forrest could well be the man to provide a bit of magic on the elite stage for his country.
