During the second singles match of the new season, Novak Djokovic injured his hand while participating in the United Cup, the national team’s Tennis tournament. This happened even though he had been tirelessly playing on various surfaces and continents without experiencing any fatigue cause it was the beginning of the season.

Nick Kyrgios immediately blamed the ATP for injuring the best Tennis player in History.

Different manufacturers’ tennis balls problem

In recent months, there has been a lot of criticism about the eternal problem of top tennis. Because due to sponsorship contracts, there is no standard ball for all tournaments. This essential work tool is changed almost every week to make the situation even worse. For the tournament organizers, the business relationship with the producers is much more important than the health of the tennis players. Of course, how short-sighted this behavior is is best seen by numerous injuries.

Tournaments are sometimes left without the most attractive players precisely because of this problem, but nothing is done about it. According to the British “Express,” Djokovic’s agency PTPA (Professional Tennis Players Association) has already prepared its proposal to solve the problem with the balls.

Soon, we will have a meeting with all interested parties, and the agreement could be reached already at an early stage of this year,” pointed out Hamad Naser, executive director of PTPA, “And for all three basic playing surfaces.”

Express recalls that Djokovic recently, at the Paris Masters, spoke with the leading men of the ATP, Andrea Gaudenzi and Massimo Calvelli, and announced negotiations on a solution.

Nasser explains the problem: “You go from one tournament on concrete to another, and you have three different types of balls. Some are heavy, some are light, and they destroy your elbows and your shoulders. Tournament directors never think about that. It is only important for them to secure the sponsorship of the ball manufacturers”.

Of course, even if an agreement is reached by all interested parties, primarily players, ATP, and tournament organizers, it isn’t easy to expect that it can be resolved immediately. The contracts have been signed, and the season has already started, but it would be phenomenal to reach an agreement and then implement it when the situation allows. That would be a huge step forward in the struggle against tennis player injuries.
