As a football fan, the situation with VAR this weekend is quite frustrating.

Probably the most used saying since VAR has been implemented in Scotland is ‘ all we ask for is consistency’ but this weekend in the Premier Sports Cup, we won’t have that.

This contrasts with the Rangers vs Dundee and Celtic vs Falkirk fixtures, where VAR will be in use because these matches will be shown live on Premier Sports 1.

The selective deployment of VAR in the competition, dictated by whether a match is televised, raises questions about fairness and uniformity in officiating.

Teams playing without VAR could potentially face different standards of decision-making compared to those with the Technology at their disposal. This discrepancy could iNFLuence the outcomes of the Games and, by extension, the comPetition’s integrity, sparking discussions on whether VAR should be standard across all matches in a tournament to ensure consistency and fairness.

I’m not saying we should have or not have VAR in these matches, but what I am saying is that all teams should be doing the same, whether that’s having the technology or not.
