How Each of Celtic’s Champions League Opponents Faired on Matchday Two
Matchday two of this season’s UEFA Champions League was one to forget for Celtic, but what about all of their upcoming opponents?
The Hoops still have six Games to go against six different teams in the initial league phase of European Football’s premier club comPetition, and here, we will examine how each of their soon-to-be foes faired over the past few days.
Brendan Rodgers takes his team to Bergamo to face Atalanta in less than three weeks. They comfortably beat Shakhtar Donetsk last night, with Berat Djimsiti, Ademola Lookman, and Raoul Bellanova scoring in a 3-0 triumph on the road.
After their trip to Italy, the Celts welcome RB Leipzig to Parkhead on matchday four. Although they led 2-1 against 10-man Juventus last night, the Germans succumbed to a narrow 3-2 defeat.
Elsewhere, Club Brugge bounced back from their matchday one loss to Borussia Dortmund, Christos Tzolis scoring the only goal in their 1-0 win away to Sturm Graz.
Dinamo Zagreb, whom the Bhoys Travel to in December, drew at home to Monaco yesterday. A last-minute penalty could only save a point for the visitors.
Celtic last home game of the league phase sees them welcome Young Boys to Glasgow’s east end in the new year. The Swiss side continued their poor start to the Champions League on Tuesday, losing 5-0 to a ruthless Barcelona side.
Finally, on Wednesday night, Aston Villa secured a shock victory over Bayern Munich. Super-sub Jhon Duran scored the Game’s only goal.
After matchday two, Celtic sit 20th in the league phase table, two points clear of the automatic elimination places.
Despite their harrowing defeat to Dortmund, the Scottish champions remain in a positive position heading into matchday three later this month.
