Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has refused to admit the Hoops’ tactical approach against Borussia Dortmund was wrong, explaining the Germans just got the rub of the green and that everything went right for them.

The Hoops were embarrassed at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday evening, falling to a hapless 7-1 defeat.

Goals from Emre Can, Karim Adeyemi, Serhou Guirassy, and Felix Nmecha completed a memorable night for the hosts.

Brendan Rodgers’ men were continually exposed by Dortmund, who showed no mercy in a ruthless display.

The loss was the fourth time Celtic boss Rodgers had conceded six or more goals in a UEFA Champions League match.

Such a record is nothing to be proud of, and many have since criticised his approach to Games against big European opposition.

Schmeichel recently weighed in on the discourse about the Bhoys’ tactical set-up versus elite sides.

“There’s always a debate,” he said (The Scottish Sun).

“But that approach has been very successful for us this season. Sometimes you just come up against an opponent where everything goes their way.

“I’ve been lucky enough to be at the other end of some of them as well. Sometimes it’s like everything the opposition hits goes in.

“They get the luck or the rub of the green to get this kind of result. It’s not one of those results that’s indicative of us as a team, though.

“We’ve had a very good start to the season and have to remember that.

“We just have to take it on the chin now. It’s not who we are, or what we have been.

“You need to take the rough with the smooth. We’ve been on the other side a lot this season.”

Schmeichel and his teaMMAtes will be desperate to bounce back ahead of a trip to the Highlands this weekend.

The Scottish Premiership champions Travel to Ross County on Sunday at midday, aiming to return to winning ways.

Rodgers’ team have started the league campaign perfectly, winning six from six, scoring 20 goals, and conceding none up to this point.

Continuing their impeccable record this weekend is a priority after a European embarrassment.
