It was an evening to forget for the Bhoys, who were taught a Footballing lesson by the German giants.

After a frantic opening 11 minutes, an Emre Can penalty, a Daizen Maeda equaliser, and a deflected Karim Adeyemi strike eventually saw Dortmund take a 2-1 lead.

From then on, things only got worse for Celtic, with Adeyemi completing a hat-trick, striker Serhou Guirassy bagging a brace, and Felix Nmecha getting in on the act to complete the scoring.

The Scottish Premiership looked dead on their feet and were continually exposed by last season’s UEFA Champions League runners-up.

For the embarrassing result, skipper McGregor has apologised to the fans, especially those who Travelled out to Germany in their thousands.

“We can only apologise to the fans because when you play for Celtic and get beat 7-1 it is not good enough,” he said (RecordSport).

“Credit to them for sticking with us and we thank them for that. We know that can’t happen again.

“I hate standing here making excuses when you lose heavily like that but I have to say a word about the supporters because all credit to them as they stuck with the team and that is a compliment to how well the team is playing and how well the season has started.

“We have to quickly get over it as we have another Game on Sunday and the only way we can put that right is by winning.”

After being embarrassed on the continent midweek, Celtic swiftly turn their attention back to the domestic scene and a lengthy trip to Ross County this weekend.

The Bhoys Travel to Dingwall for a midday kick-off on Sunday, aiming to put right the wrongs of Tuesday and give something back to the supporters.

Having made a perfect start to the league campaign, nothing but three points is acceptable for Brendan Rodgers’ men, who will look to make it seven wins out of seven in the Scottish Premiership this campaign.
