It’s been just under a year since Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs suffered a season-ending ACL tear, but now he’s back with the Cowboys, having joined his first full practice with the team on Wednesday.

Diggs started training camp this year on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list so that he could ease back into training. He was removed from the PUP list just over two weeks ago and has been easing in ever since. Well, he’s back now and in full force.

Diggs snags interception in Wednesday’s practice

Boy, is it good to have Diggs back. Since he joined the Cowboys in 2020, Diggs has logged 18 interceptions, 11 of which came in his All-Pro 2021 season. And the moment he got the opportunity to work in a full practice, he snagged an interception again.

During Wednesday’s joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams, Diggs participated in 11-on-11 drills for the first time since his injury and is already looking like he could be back to full form by the Cowboys’ season opener on September 8.

After snagging the interception, Diggs asked after practice, “Did they count it? They should’ve. I got both feet in.”

Indeed, he did. And that’s not all. In addition to the interception, Diggs made another impressive play when he stripped the ball from Rams wide receiver Tyler Johnson.

“It felt good getting back, moving around, with other players flying around and bodies near me,” Diggs said. “It was good. I got a lot of great work in today. It kind of felt like my first game when I was a rookie.”

What’s really encouraging too is that Diggs didn’t seem to be giving the knee a second thought. He was focused on football, excited to be playing alongside his teammates again, and seemingly unbothered by any lingering knee pain.

“It’s fun getting out there,” Diggs said. “I missed playing against another team as well. It was good to get these practice reps in. The season is in, what, four weeks? It’s gonna go by fast. … I’ve gotta be prepared for that and this is the only [chance] I can get prepared for it.”

“I trust it now,” Diggs said. “It’s just more so getting more rePetitions, just getting back to doing what I do, getting familiar with the routes and that’s pretty much it. As far as my mental, being scared or anything, I’m not.”
