Cowboys injury update: Ferguson, Martin, Guyton...
The Dallas Cowboys suffered yet another tough loss at home on Sunday, this time a 34-10 loss to the Houston Texans. On top of another home blowout, the Cowboys also lost quite a few players to injuries during the Game.
All season long, the Cowboys have been dealing with injuries to key players and even as some were finally starting to return, five had to leave the Game on Sunday - tight end Jake Ferguson, guards Zack Martin and Tyler Smith, offensive tackle Tyler Guyton, and safety Markquese Bell.
Cowboys injury update after Week 11
TE Jake Ferguson
Tight end Jake Ferguson was the first of the Cowboys to get injured during Monday night’s loss to the Texans. He exited the game on just the third possession and was immediately ruled out with a concussion. With the Cowboy' next game against the Commanders less than a week away, it’s unlikely that Ferguson will clear protocol in time, so it looks like they’ll face Washington without him.
G Zack Martin
Perhaps one of the hardest injuries to witness was that of right guard Zack Martin. The future Hall of Famer is likely playing his last season with the Cowboys and when he went down with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter, the fans were already mourning his career’s “end”.
We don’t yet know the severity of the injury (he will be evaluated later today), but Martin has been dealing with several injuries this season, and this one didn’t look good. Either way, if this is indeed his last season with the Cowboys, it will be a sad way for the seven-time All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowler to end his career in Dallas.
G Tyler Smith
Shortly after Martin exited the field, left guard Tyler Smith also exited the game with an ankle injury. Smith had played all 10 games this season, but his status for the Week 12 game against the Commanders is now up in the air on the short week.
OT Tyler Guyton
Before the Game against the Texans, Guyton was nursing a shoulder injury, and it seemed to have been aggravated after a messy play that saw him recover a fumble by Cooper Rush and attempting to run with it before getting hit hard and fumbling it himself, resulting in a Texans defensive score. He left the Game immediately after the play and didn’t return.
S Markquese Bell
Early in the second quarter, safety Markquese Bell suffered a horrific shoulder injury. As he was attempting a tackle on Dameon Pierce during a kickoff return, his left arm bent back awkwardly, clearly leaving him in pain. He had to leave the field with help from medical assistance. He was initially listed as questionable, but did not return for the rest of the game.
Bell has reportedly already been ruled out of the Cowboys' Week 12 game against the Washington Commanders. Former NFL doctor David J. Chao wrote on X that the injury looked like a “clear anterior/inferior shoulder dislocation” that will likely require surgery.
