The awkward moment when Alcaraz (doesn’t) hand Bellingham his trophy
Spanish Tennis star Carlos Alcaraz, who won the Laureus Breakthrough of the Year award last year, was the one to present the award to its new owner for 2024 - Real Madrid’s newest young star Jude Bellingham.
Alcaraz delivered a heartfelt speech, thanking the Laureus Academy for allowing him to present and praising Bellingham’s talents, all the while holding onto the trophy himself rather than handing it over. When Bellingham finally began to speak, Alcaraz can be heard speaking in Spanish to someone who tells him, “give him the trophy!” He hands it over to Bellingham, saying, “I think you have to hold it, right?” Bellingham jokes back, “he’s kept it for another year!” as Alcaraz laughs it off.
