Pep Guardiola suffers worst ever run of defeats as a coach

Manchester City’s recent crisis has reached new depths following Saturday’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur, who thrashed the champions 4-0 at the Etihad. After four consecutive defeats before the international break, a fifth straight loss means Pep Guardiola’s is now on his worst ever run in his 17-year career as a head coach.

Pep Guardiola’s unwanted new record

City lost four away games in a row between October 30 and November 9, the club’s worst sequence of results in 18 years and only the second such period in Guardiola’s managerial career.

During his time in charge of Bayern Munich between 2013 and 2016, the former Barcelona boss saw the Bavarians lose three consecutive Bundesliga games (0-2 vs Bayer Leverkusen, 0-1 vs Augsburg and 1-2 Augsburg), with a 3-0 Champions League semifinal defeat to Barcelona in the middle of them in May 2015.

However, the caveat is that Bayern had already sealed the German league title and had taken their foot off the gas as they focused on the Champions League, which they ultimately failed to win.

After a League Cup defeat to Tottenham (1-2), Premier League losses to Bournemouth (1-2) and Brighton (1-2), and a UCL reverse at the hands of Sporting CP (1-4), losing to Spurs for the second time in a month is the first time in Guardiola’s career he has overseen a five-game losing run.
