Star Wars Jedi: Fans Are Only Just Noticing Cal Kestis' Tattoo
Some Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order players are only just noticing the tattoo that Cal Kestis has on his right arm, which is speculated to be an employee tag to show that Cal is a Bracca scrapper.
Over on the Fallen Order subreddit, Redditor Master-Tradition-204 shared an image of the tattoo on Cal's forearm, noting that he "never knew Cal had a tattoo". The post quickly became one of the most-liked on the subreddit over the past week, implying that there are a few other Jedi fans out there that also didn't notice Cal's ink.
That's not too much of a surprise considering Cal's arms are almost always covered by a poncho, but it's worth noting that it's a lot easier to see in the key art for Jedi: Survivor, as Cal's new default outfit shows it off a lot more. As for the tattoo itself, there's a surprising amount of backstory and explanation for what it actually is, even if it's not explicitly said.
Never knew Cal had a tattoo from FallenOrder
Cal's tattoo is never talked about during Fallen Order, so we don't have a definitive answer as to what it's supposed to represent, but it's been speculated that it's an identification tattoo given to Bracca workers. Concept art for Fallen Order also refers to it as a "company tattoo", which supports that theory.
Interestingly, as pointed out in this Reddit post, the tattoo's design actually matches the "Hyper Shell" poncho that Cal can wear, implying that the scrapping company that he worked for on Bracca was called Hyper Shell. Again, it's not addressed in-Game at any point, so we've only got some vague ideas to piece together, but there's a surprising amount of backstory to a tattoo that some players never even noticed.
It seems that a decent number of Star Wars Jedi fans haven't been paying too much attention to Cal's design over the years as, when Jedi: Survivor's key art was unveiled earlier this year, there was some confusion over whether the scars on Cal's face were new, since he looked a lot more rugged than he did in Fallen Order. The scars weren't new and had been there since Fallen Order, but the more detailed render of Cal seems to have made them stand out more.
