Report: Celtic Bogusz Deal Falls Through
Celtic’s pursuit of LAFC midfielder Mateusz Bogusz appears to have hit a dead end, with the Hoops now shifting their focus to securing Arne Engels as their marquee signing before Friday’s transfer deadline. Despite Celtic’s efforts to land Bogusz, talks with the MLS side have stalled, and it’s increasingly unlikely that a deal will be struck. [Meczyc.pl]
Celtic had submitted a formal bid for Bogusz following LAFC’s Leagues Cup final defeat to Columbus Crew on Sunday, but negotiations failed to progress. With LAFC holding firm, Celtic have opted to explore other options as they race against the clock to reinforce their squad.
The focus has always been on Arne Engels, with Celtic ready to break the bank to bring the Belgian midfielder to Parkhead. Engels, currently plying his trade with Augsburg in the Bundesliga, has emerged as a top target for Brendan Rodgers, and it’s understood that the Hoops are prepared to make him the most expensive signing in the club’s History.
The 20-year-old has impressed in Germany, and his versatility in midfield is seen as a perfect fit for Celtic’s system. Talks are believed to be going on as we speak, with the Scottish champions working tirelessly to get the deal over the line before the window slams shut on Friday night.
If completed, Engels’ signing would be a significant statement of intent from Celtic as they aim to bolster their squad for both domestic and European comPetitions. With the Bogusz deal now seemingly off the table, could the bhoys return for him in January?
