Two first half goals from Luis Diaz with both assists being provided by Mohamed Salah helped Liverpool to dominate proceedings against a dispirited Manchester United in the big Premier League clash of the weekend.

The Egyptian himself was on target to seal the win in the second half as Liverpool brushed the Red Devils aside at Old Trafford with a comprehensive 0-3 win.

Liverpool took advantage of sloppy defending from United with Brazilian midfielder Casemiro at fault for the two Liverpool first half goals with the veteran playering being substituted by the United coach at the break.

United boss Erik ten Hag, after a second humbling in the space of a week following last Saturday’s last-gasp loss at Brighton and Hove Albion, was far from upbeat. “It’s not like I’m Harry Potter, that is what you have to acknowledge,” Ten Hag said.

“I don’t think (we make the same mistakes every week), otherwise you wouldn’t win trophies as we did and to beat big opponents.”

Salah exit?

After helping Liverpool to the victory over Manchester United, Mohamed Salah revealed that this would be his last season at Anfield.

The Egyptian, who is the highest scoring visiting player to Old Trafford in Premier League History with seven goals is in dazzling form in the opening phase of the 2024-25 campaign and adapting well to new boss Arne Slot in perfect fashion this season.

Salah stole the headlines with his post-match thoughts stating: “I had a good summer, a long time to stay with myself and think positively a bit, this is my last year with the club and I want to enjoy it,” the 32-year-old told Sky Sports.

“I feel I am free to play Football -- we will see what happens next year. Nobody in the club has talked to me about contracts. It is not up to me, it is up to the club.”

Liverpool in recent years have been reluctant to offer lucrative contracts to players over the age of 30 and this may impact on the Egyptians future at Anfield.

Possible destinations for Salah

As things stand, a move to the Roshn Saudi League would appear to be the leading destination for the striker with Al-Ittihad rumoured to have made a 150 million dollar bid for his services in 2023.

2024-25 may be Karim Benzema’s last campaign with the Jeddah based side and the Egyptian could replace the French striker as the new source of hope for Tigers fans.

A move to Chelsea has also been suggested in recent months with the striker a former Stamford Bridge player but only wore the blue jersey on t13 occasions with his time at the London club seeing the player out on loan with Fiorentina and AS Roma.
