Kris Boyd sounds worried as he identifies the ‘big’ advantage Celtic have over Rangers now
With the Glasgow Derby up next for Celtic, a home tie against Rangers gives Brendan Rodgers an advantage over our closest rivals.
With no away fans allowed in for the final SPFL derby of the season, the atmosphere promises to be electric for the visit of Philippe Clement’s team.
But that is not what is worrying former Rangers striker, Kris Boyd. The main concern for the Sky Sports pundit is not how the derby result will go but more to do with what Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers has at his disposal in terms of playing personnel.
Boyd worried about Celtic’s players ‘stepping up’
Celtic have had a lot of injuries to their big players this season and now that they are all back, Boyd is concerned that the Hoops’ main players are doing something that Rangers aren’t at this stage of the season.
Boyd said [Sky Sports], “I think Chris [Sutton] touched this, Celtic’s big players, in the last few weeks, have stepped up.
“Can you say the same about Rangers? I’m not too sure. And that’s key.
“That’s where you speak about key players stepping up. You know, you speak about Callum McGregor has been injured for a little while, but he’s come back. He was excellent yesterday.
“Matt O’Riley was off it for a little bit. He was excellent yesterday, Kyogo with his first double of the season.
“When your team needs you, they’ve stood up.”
And it’s not just those players who have delivered. We have seen the likes of Liam Scales improve this weekend and ever since Cameron Carter-Vickers returned to the Hoops backline, the US defender has brought confidence and calmness to the Celtic defence.
With Joe Hart also pulling off brilliant saves as well, Celtic look really solid heading into the final three Games of the season.
It’s little wonder Boyd sounds worried because Celtic are hitting form just when it matters.
