Celtic Duo Feature as Japan Win Over China
Earlier on Tuesday, in a World Cup qualifier in Xiamen, Japan triumphed over China 3-1, navigating both a challenging on-field battle and an intense off-field atmosphere.
This marked the first meeting between the two nations in nearly a decade, played against the backdrop of strained political tensions and heightened security measures.
On the pitch, Japan demonstrated their class, with Celtic stars Daizen Maeda and Kyogo making impactful appearances from the bench to help secure the victory. Reo Hatate did not feature but was part of the squad.
The win strengthens Japan’s position in their qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup, showcasing their dominance as they edge closer to securing a spot in the tournament.
The match saw an interruption when a pitch invader momentarily halted proceedings. The individual, bearing the message “Rise of national Football” on his back in Chinese characters, was swiftly apprehended by security. The disruption reflected the broader unease surrounding the Game, which began with loud jeers during the Japanese national anthem.
The match announcer urged the crowd to maintain decorum, appealing for respect and civility amidst the heated atmosphere.
It was good for Kyogo, though, getting more minutes on the pitch after struggling for call-ups in recent times.
