To celebrate its upcoming 25th anniversary, global gourmet supermarket GREAT FOOD HALL has planned a series of exciting activations.

As part of the festivities, GREAT FOOD HALL joins forces with famous local photography artist David Leung to interpret the concept of “Food x Art” through a specially curated “see food NOT see food Shelf Life” exhibition in the store. Featured alongside the countless food options in the supermarket are five works from Leung’s iconic “BEASTS FROM FEASTS” series which creates imaginative visual works out of food by employing the power of pareidolia, a psychological phenomenon in which the mind finds familiar patterns where none exist. Breathing life into scrumptious bites, he transforms food into familiar characters, revealing hidden faces through art.

“see food NOT see food Shelf Life” explores the intersection of art and consumer culture through a whimsical display of faux products. Each item on the shelf is consistent in shape with commercial packaging but wrapped in David’s signature artwork, encouraging visitors to think again about their relationship with everyday consumer goods. Some art pieces on display in GREAT FOOD HALL’s Art Hunt are David Leung’s “Sourdough”, “Lasi Lemak”, “Icecream”, “Uni” and “Sake” pieces.

GREAT uses the original 36,000-square-foot store space to bring a new dimension to the gourmet shopping journey. For its upcoming anniversary celebrations, GREAT has introduced an oversized check-in photo spot featuring a vegan cheese seating area and floating wine installation to welcome customers into the vibrant shopping experience. Throughout the years, it has introduced a number of new gourmet food counters and brands — from plant-based steaks from Juicy Marbles to vegan cheeses from Nuteese and Oyster Leaf. It brings together special wines and food from 26 countries and regions and provides more than 12,000 globally selected products, including nearly 2,500 exclusive brands.

Arriving just in time for its 25th anniversary are a number of new items and exciting offers. Among them is being the first in the city to debut the Johnnie Walker “Squid Game” Special Edition which features a teal-green label and a patch with a randomised number from 001 to 456, echoing the aesthetic of the jumpsuits and numbers worn by participants in the fictional Game show.

Other exclusive launches at GREAT come from Pizza Express, the UK’s first pizzeria in London’s SoHo, which brings frozen ready-made meals of Bolognese Lasagne, Spinach & Ricotta Cannelloni, Spaghetti Meatballs, and Frozen Pizzas (Margherita/Pepperoni).

For the first time, Pret A Manger has created four granolas for customers to enjoy the same high-quality taste from the comfort of their home featuring GREAT-exclusive “Tropical Fruit” and “Oat Coconut Crunch Granola” flavours. There will also be new products from Dingley Dell. Also known as “Happy Pig,” the farm cooperates with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to maintain standards over the life span of the pigs.

GREAT Wonderland has further introduced a HKD$25 Stamp Card system limited to 15 to 16 November allowing guests to sample various gourmet delights and plant-based options including the Oyster + House Wine + Mini Strawberry Danish combo and House Wine + Plant-based Nugget and Patty + Plant-based Spring rolls combo.
