Celtic kicked off their season in style yesterday as they romped to a dominant 4-0 win over Kilmarnock at Parkhead.

Goals came courtesy of Reo Hatate, Liam Scales, Nicolas Kuhn, and Anthony Ralston in a victory which had plenty of positives for manager Brendan Rodgers.

The boss was encouraged by his side’s performance, and he got to give a comPetitive debut to his trusted number one Kasper Schmeichel.

The Denmark internationalist joined the Hoops on a free transfer this summer and made his Parkhead bow on Sunday. He admitted it ‘exceeded expectation’ as Schmeichel rounded off a perfect debut with a clean sheet.

Arriving with a high pedigree, the new ‘keeper has already shown his elite levels in the couple of Celtic appearances he has made across pre-season and the league so far.

Indeed, pundit and ex-Celt Charlie Mulgrew has been so impressed by the 37-year-old that he thinks he is an upgrade on the retired Joe Hart.

“What a signing it is”, he said (Sky Sports).

“He’s an upgrade on Joe Hart, you’d imagine.

“I think this is an ideal replacement. It’s a great signing. Everybody connected with the club is delighted and looking forward to seeing him.

“He’s a big character, the same as Joe Hart was. They needed to replace not only a goalkeeper but a character in the changing room.”

It is early days, but the signing of Schmeichel looks to have been a shrewd bit of Business from Celtic.

Credit where it’s due, the club have pulled the rabbit out of the hat with this one, but much more work needs done in the transfer market before the window shuts later this month.
