Greg Taylor’s brilliant response to fans turning out for late-night Celtic title party

Greg Taylor has been one of Celtic’s most dependable players over the last few years and his reliability has been key for Brendan Rodgers this term.

The Scotland international has made 44 appearances in all comPetitions this term, registering three goals and five assists [Transfermarkt].

Earlier in the season, fan frustration became apparent after Celtic failed to sign a left-back in the January transfer window. Following Alexandro Bernabei’s departure on loan to Internacional, Taylor has become Rodgers’ only recognised option in the position.

Since arriving from Kilmarnock in 2019, the Greenock-born man has seen off competition for his place from several competitors. He now has eight trophies to his name at Parkhead, cementing his standing among the experienced core of the Hoops’ squad, who can’t seem to stop their winning habit.

With just over a year left on his Celtic deal, there is work to be done in securing his long-term future; regardless, Taylor looks to be settled in Glasgow’s east end, and he has paid tribute to his manager’s iNFLuence on the group this season.

Rodgers has had to fight fire in portions of the campaign; nevertheless, Taylor has loved working under him, claiming his ‘brilliant’ management has helped to navigate bumps in the road and significant departures, forging an environment to prosper at Parkhead.

The former Kilmarnock man also acknowledged the amazing turnout present at the stadium to welcome the champions home despite many having work or other obligations the following day, per Sky Sports Scotland.

He stated: “We can never take it for granted that it really is a club like no other. A Wednesday night, most of these guys have probably got work in the morning, and they’re out here in their thousands so it’s an unbelievable feeling.”

Later, he added on Rodgers: “The manager has been brilliant. Off of a team that had won real success, but I think it’s quite a different team. We lost big players and we’ve had our bumps along the road, but the manager is a winner and he’s showed it again.”

I think it is fair to say most Celtic fans did enjoy themselves last night, and it is well deserved, as this season hasn’t been as cut and dry as some of the club’s previous successes.

Coming back to Parkhead was always going to be a challenge for Rodgers, but he has duly delivered, leaving nobody in any doubt that he is the man for the job.

This weekend, Celtic captain Callum McGregor will hoist the league trophy high above his head on a day of mass celebration.
