Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon completes return to management, delivers nod to the Hoops
Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon has completed his return to club management following two years away from the dugout after leaving Omonia Nicosia.
The Lurgan-born man won ten trophies in charge at Parkhead over two spells before departing in 2021, making him the third-most successful manager in the club’s History.
Since moving back from Cyprus, Lennon has enjoyed time away from the pressure of coaching. He has become a regular in the punditry circuit, lending his extensive Celtic knowledge across several outlets.
Earlier this year, he was reportedly in the frame for the Republic of Ireland job before FAI Director of Football Marc Canham informed the 52-year-old that he was no longer under consideration for the role.
Now, he has taken the plunge back into management in a new venture that is bound to pique the interest of many Celtic supporters.
Neil Lennon appointed Rapid Bucharest manager
Rapid Bucharest have formally announced that Lennon has agreed to join the club on a two-year contract, meaning he will remain in the Romanian capital until at least 2026 [Rapid Bucharest FC].
Delivering a statement after becoming boss of the Railwaymen, he said to their official club website: “At first, I talked to Mr. Sucu and Daniel Sandu, I had extensive discussions with them. Then we met again a few weeks ago and I was very impressed with the project they presented to me.
“I was very impressed by Mr. Sucu, he is a very strong man, very intelligent, a man with principles. It was impressive to me. Then, talking to Daniel as well, it was a simple decision for me. I am very happy to be here, I know that Rapid is a very important name in the History of Romanian Football. It’s an opportunity for me.
Lennon then gave a nod to his old club Celtic, stating: “I hope to create a strong connection between myself and the supporters, but this comes with achieving positive results and making the performance. It is my responsibility. I know they are very passionate supporters who love the club.
“They are similar to Celtic fans. I want us to perform; this is my main goal. I hope to meet the supporters soon, and I will do everything possible to perform with Rapid.”
Neil Lennon prepares for new Rapid Bucharest adventure
Last week, we told that Lennon was on the verge of completing a deal to join the Romanian outfit, which could net him around £1.5 million for the two years he is set to be in post after negotiations were held.
Legendary Celtic figure Martin O’Neill was also believed to be in the running; nevertheless, another former Hoops manager is now tasked with taking the three-time Superliga winners forward.
Following a prolonged wait, Lennon has another chance to shine in management. Good luck to him in his new adventure, and hopefully, he can enjoy plenty of success in his new role.
