Daizen Maeda made headlines once again, this time internationally, as he scored for Japan in their stunning 7-0 victory over China.

Fresh off opening the scoring in Celtic’s Glasgow Derby triumph on Sunday, Maeda continued his goal-scoring form on the international stage.

Typically playing through the middle for Japan, Maeda found himself on the left wing during the match, mirroring his club position at Celtic. Despite starting on the bench and entering the Game in the 63rd minute with Japan already leading by four goals, Maeda made his presence felt by adding the sixth goal. He positioned himself at the back post to head past the Chinese goalkeeper in the 87th minute.

In addition to his on-pitch performance, Maeda debuted a new hair colour, moving from bleach blonde to a striking silver/purple shade.

No joy for Reo Hatate

Meanwhile, Celtic teaMMAte Reo Hatate was absent from Japan’s matchday squad despite being called up for the international fixtures. Hatate, who has been breaking into the national setup, last played in Japan’s 5-0 win over Myanmar in June. Injuries got in the way of the player getting consistent minutes on the national side.

Hopefully, the midfielder will get a chance at some point on Tuesday when Japan face Bahrain.
