“It’s night and day” – Brendan Rodgers Makes Encouraging Celtic Observation
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers thinks his players have a totally different understanding of how he works now than what they did at the beginning of last term.
The boss returned to Glasgow last summer to somewhat of a mixed reception. A few fans remained sour over his departure to Leicester in 2019, but he has now safely got everyone back onside after winning a domestic double under challenging circumstances.
Now, in the early days of the new campaign, Rodgers has his team playing like a well-oiled machine.
The Hoops look assured in everything they do going forward. They remain a constant threat and are equally effective in the press and counter-press as they are in the attacking phases of play.
Their form so far this campaign has been eye-catching and culminated in a dominant Glasgow derby victory on Sunday.
Rangers were put to the sword in a 3-0 romp at Parkhead, as Rodgers’ men blew away their city rivals.
Celtic’s improvements from last term are coherent, and Rodgers thinks a lot of their development has come from the players understanding his way of working and coaching methods.
Indeed, the boss believes that things are much more streamlined and effective after a year of working with the players.
“I think having had that period of time now working with the team in just over a year, there is probably a greater trust between both really”, he said (RecordSport).
“The guys understand how I manage and coach and how I develop. They have a comfort with that, but also know the demands and expectations that we put on players and those of the club.
“So it’s night and day [from this time last year] in terms of where we’re at from a feeling perspective. There’s always been a great joy working with this group. I’ve loved coming in and seeing their attitude, mentality and spirit that they have.
“But I think over the course of the last year, we have been able to cultivate that even more and rehearse more situations, which puts us in a really, really good place and now we have to integrate the new players into that and allow them to build these relationships, also.”
Rodgers will hope his new acquisitions can quickly integrate into the team, with some important league, cup, and Champions League matches on the horizon.
