The 26-year-old has been somewhat shifted out of the first-choice picture at the Hoops in recent weeks amid the notable emergence of Auston Trusty.

The American has proved himself to be a dependable partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers and replaced Scales in the lineup over the past few matches.

Looking at the bigger picture, though, and in the past calendar year, Scales has been hugely dependable for his club.

While his abilities are sometimes questioned, he is continually reliable and has proved he can cut it domestically.

His form over the past 12 months, during which he helped the Celts win the double, has gone a long way in helping Scales be named as PFA Ireland’s best overseas player for 2024:

Since his Celtic emergence, Scales has become a regular at international level, too.

He made headlines for the wrong reasons, though, during the recent break when he got sent off and gave away a penalty for Ireland against England at Wembley.

He was then an unused substitute in the Bhoys’ emphatic 4-1 triumph at Tynecastle last night, but as Celtic enters a gruelling run of key fixtures, the defender’s services will likely be called upon.
