Celtic’s commanding 4-1 victory over Hearts has prompted former Hearts defender and BBC Sportsound pundit Allan Preston to boldly declare the Scottish Premiership title race over.

Preston’s comments come as Celtic extend their lead at the top of the table to three points over Aberdeen and a massive 11 points over Rangers.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Preston was unequivocal about Celtic’s dominance:
“We do not have a league title challenge. Aberdeen are now three points behind and they will not catch Celtic now. Rangers are miles away, they are eleven points behind now. The league is done. Celtic are miles and miles ahead.”

Preston’s defiant claim reflects the impressive form of Brendan Rodgers’ side, who have consistently found ways to win, even on less-than-perfect days.

Their clinical display at Tynecastle, coupled with Aberdeen’s earlier defeat to St Mirren, has strengthened the perception that Celtic are well on their way to another Premiership title, making it four in a row.

While Preston’s remarks may resonate with some fans, others may view them as premature, particularly with well more than half the season still to play. However, Celtic’s ability to grind out results and their depth in key areas certainly suggest they are the team to beat.

Rodgers, ever-focused, will likely dismiss any such proclamations and continue to demand consistency from his squad. But with an 11-point cushion over Rangers and a growing gap between themselves and the chasing pack, Celtic’s position at the summit looks increasingly unassailable.
