Who is Slavko Vincic, the referee for Barcelona vs Bayern in the Champions League today?
Slavko Vincic is set to take charge of today’s heavyweight Champions League tie between Barcelona and Bayern Munich (3pm ET).
The experienced referee oversaw last season’s Champions League final when he took charge of Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.
He made his Champions League debut in 2016 and has now blown the whistle at over 40 games in Europe’s elite club competition. He has also been involved in Europa League games and even dipped his toe into the Saudi Pro League, taking charge of Al Hilal’s recent win over Al Ahli.
Slavko Vincic’s record
Regular viewers of the PrvaLiga in Slovenia will already have him checked off their spotter’s guide, having refereed close to 200 games in his native country.
A total of 47 red cards in 189 Games in Slovenia shows he‘s not afraid to get bossy when he needs to, but in Europe‘s elite comPetition he’s only brandished his red card five times in 42 ties.
In international soccer, Vincic was a referee at Euro 2020, World Cup 2022 and Euro 2024.
Away from the pitch, Vincic has also made the news: In 2020, he was arrested on suspicion of being linked to a prostitution, drug and illegal firearms racket in Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, he was released without charge after being cleared of any wrongdoing.
The Game between Barcelona - Bayern Munich will be played on Wednesday October 23, with kick off at 3:00 p.m. ET / 12:00 p.m. PT. If you’re in the US, you can watch the Game on both TUDN and Paramount. As well as those channels, the Game will also be broadcast on FuboTV, who offer a free trial.
