Now in his second managerial role with Ayr United, the former Celtic captain is making waves in the Scottish Championship, with his side currently sitting top of the table. This weekend, they’ll face their nearest challengers, Falkirk, in what promises to be a fantastic clash at the top of the league.

Brown’s journey in management hasn’t been without its challenges. After a difficult stint at Fleetwood Town that ended with his sacking, he’s bounced back impressively with Ayr, getting his team to play an exciting brand of Football. The 39-year-old credits much of his early success in the dugout to the lessons he’s learned from his former Celtic managers: Brendan Rodgers, Neil Lennon, and Gordon Strachan.

Speaking about his iNFLuences, Broony revealed that he remains in regular contact with his former mentors. “Brendan, Gordon and Lenny — I still speak to all three of them all the time,” he said to SunSport. “I ask Brendan for a lot of advice. Stracho’s just amazing — he’s a great personality, great human being, but also at the same time he’s got an understanding of this generation of Football. What you want, how you have to maintain yourself, how you have to look after yourself. Lenny’s brilliant because he’s honest.”

Brown also highlighted how Rodgers’ approach to the Game, particularly in terms of fitness and Science, has had a lasting impact on him. “You always look at a manager and steal a few things. Brendan came in… body fat was a huge thing, distance covered, high speed had to be hit in training and in Games,” Brown explained. “Shape, structure, was very good, spot on. Time of movement, it had to be right.”

The former Celtic skipper isn’t just taking advice, though—he’s putting it into practice at Ayr. The team’s performances so far have been marked by their fitness and organisation, key attributes he honed under the guidance of Rodgers and co.

As Brown prepares his side for the challenge of facing John McGlynn’s Falkirk, there’s no doubt that his wealth of experience and the guidance of his former managers are playing a significant role in his journey. Interestingly, McGlynn himself has worked under Brendan Rodgers, adding an extra layer of intrigue to this weekend’s top-of-the-table clash.
