Having watched the first few episodes of Only Murders in the Building season 4, here’s our detailed, but relatively spoiler-free review.

The wait is over, and the stakes are higher than ever. Only Murders in the Building is back with its fourth season, and it’s ageing like Steve Martin — exceptionally. Following the events of last season’s finale, where the detective trio cracked the Ben Glenroy case, the series plunges into darker, more complex territories, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats from the very first episode. To recap: as Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) wrap up their latest mystery and celebrate the success of Oliver’s musical, Sazz comes to talk to Charles about something a little ‘sensitive’. But, when she goes to his apartment to fetch a bottle of Malbac wine, someone shoots her through the window, apparently killing her on the spot.

Season 4 picks up where the season 3 finale left off. After a brief wait, the trio return to Charles’ apartment in search of Sazz. However, they discover the apartment empty, with no sign of Sazz in sight. Concerned, Charles continues to try to contact her. Meanwhile, the trio receive news that Paramount Pictures intends to make a film based on their podcast, which leads them to Los Angeles. Eventually, the dream team piece together that Sazz has been murdered, thus kickstarting their investigations. The question now is, who killed Sazz and why? Is Sazz the real target, or was the killer gunning for Charles and the trio?

It is revealed that Paramount has cast Eugene Levy as Charles, Zach Galifianakis as Oliver, and Eva Longoria as Mabel. The actors initially accompanied the trio to learn more about their characters; eventually, they begin assisting with the investigation, leading to some entertaining banter between the detectives and actors. As the sextet begin narrowing down their suspect list, which contains everybody the manufacturing unit to the few new Arconia residents we’re introduced to, who live on the west side of the building.

However, the case is far from closed.

When the three sense danger in the thick of their investigations, they seek shelter at the home of Charles’ sister to continue their work. In this time, we learn more about Charles’ life and his friendship with Sazz. It is also revealed that Oliver is still deeply in love with Loretta (portrayed by Meryl Streep), who now works in Los Angeles, with him attempting to figure out a long-distance relationship. Meanwhile, Mabel has begun looking for a place to live, and is trying to figure out her life. What follows is a thrilling adventure, where the trio uncover more clues to solve their newest murder mystery with the help of others.

Is OMITB season 4 worth watching?

Absolutely, yes. Fans won’t be disappointed with the storyline it’s as chaotic as ever. From the first episode onwards, the new season promises to keep you on the edge of your seat. While new cast members and characters that add spice to the show have already been revealed, you can still expect a few jaw-dropping moments and twists that’ll keep you guessing all throughout the mystery.

For the best season 4 viewing experience, we strongly recommend a rewatch of its previous seasons.
