From Camila Cabello to Sabrina Carpenter, Look at Shawn Mendes’ Dating History
Shawn Mendes, the heartthrob singer-songwriter, has been making waves in the music industry with his soulful voice, captivating stage presence and a dating history that boasts of some of the top names in the business as his former girlfriends.
However, the “In My Blood” singer has mostly remained tight-lipped about his girlfriends barring his very public relationship with Camila Cabello.
While Mendes has always been romantically linked to different women, his sexuality has often been a topic of speculation for the pop star’s fanbase. While the musician tried to put a rest to the rumours first when he was 17, the topic was not left alone. In 2016, the singer had said in a Snapchat video, “First of all, I’m not gay. Second of all, it shouldn’t make a difference if I was… The focus should be on the music.”
Eight years later, the singer who otherwise likes to keep his personal life low-key, broached the subject once again while performing at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in October 2024. Before singing his new song “The Mountain”, the singer spoke to the crowd about his early start in the music industry and how it affected his personal life. “I was really young when I started. I was 15 years old,” he said in his address, adding, “The truth is that I didn’t get to do a lot of 15-year-old things and discover parts of myself that you do at 15.”
Further touching upon the curiosity around his sexuality, much to the surprise of the LGBTQ community, he added, “There’s this thing about my sexuality, and people have been talking about it so long. It was kind of silly, because I think sexuality is such a beautifully complex thing, and it’s so hard to just put into boxes.”
“It always felt like such an intrusion on something very personal to me. Something that I was figuring out in myself, something that I had yet to discover and still have yet to discover it,” he continued.
“The real truth about my life and my sexuality is that, man, I’m just figuring it out like everyone. And it feels really scary because we live in a society that has a lot to say about that. And I’m trying to be really brave and just allow myself to be a human and feel things. And that’s all I really want to say about that for now.”
Interestingly, the lyrics of his new track ‘The Mountain,’ touch upon the speculation around his sexuality. “You can say I’m too young/ You can say I’m too old/ You can say I like girls or boys, whatever fits your mold,” the lyrics read.
All in all, the dating History and girlfriends of Shawn Mendes have fascinated and intrigued many fans and the curiosity regarding his past relationships is a testament to this.

Chloë Grace Moretz (2016)

First up on the list of Shawn Mendes’ girlfriends is If I Stay actor Chloë Grace Moretz. In 2016, there were whispers that Mendes and Moretz were seeing each other. The buzz kicked off when they started sending flirty tweets to each other, but neither of them confirmed anything.
However, during a fan Q&A in 2017, Mendes opened up about how his love life often fuels his music. “I actually had a girlfriend for two years and so I wrote songs about her,” he shared at the time. “But I write a lot of songs about love that I may not understand exactly but I do think I have a good almost understanding of it and I try my hardest and I find it extremely fun because I think love is the most powerful feeling a human can experience so I can write a million songs about it.” Fans were convinced he was talking about Grace Moretz.
Incidentally, Moretz came out as gay in a November 2024 Instagram post while encouraging others to vote early. She wrote, “I voted early. There is so much on the line this election. I believe the government has no right over my body as a woman…I believe in the need for legal protections that protect the LGBTQ+ community as a gay woman.”
Hailey Baldwin (2017-2018)
Profession: Model
How did they meet: Unknown
A year before marrying her husband Justin Bieber in 2018, model Hailey Bieber (née Baldwin) crossed paths with Shawn Mendes. In October of the same year, the two were spotted at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights sparking dating rumours. Later, at Baldwin’s Halloween party that she co-hosted with good friend and model Kendall Jenner, the former was seen cosying up with the “Treat You Better” singer.
A month later, they were photographed packing in some PDA in Mendes’ hometown of Toronto, Canada.
Cut to the Met Gala season of 2018, the duo made their red carpet debut together. However, in November 2018, after the two had parted ways and Baldwin reconciled with Bieber, Mendes clarified to Rolling Stone, “I don’t even wanna put a title on it,” he said of Hailey. “I think it was more of a zone of limbo. She’s still one of the f—king coolest people ever — she’s not just a beautiful person visually, but she’s one of the most beautiful hearts I’ve ever met. I think I’m an idiot to not, you know …. But you can’t control your heart.”
Camila Cabello (2019-2021 and then in 2023)
Profession: Singer
How did they meet: During a work gig in 2014
Shawn Mendes’s relationship with Fifth Harmony alum Camila Cabello has to be the singer’s most public and popular one yet. The two started dating in July 2019, but they first met in 2014 when they opened for pop singer Austin Mahone.
They collaborated on the song “I Know What You Did Last Summer” in 2015 but it was pure business. Their next collaboration came in 2019 with their romantic hit “Señorita” and that’s when things took a romantic turn.
In early July 2019r, they were photographed walking the streets, holding hands in Los Angeles and another time cosying up on the Fourth of July. Soon after, they were also spotted passionately kissing on a beach in Cabello’s native Miami. The “Havana” singer later confirmed that they officially started dating on the Fourth of July.
During the COVID pandemic in 2020, the couple grew even closer while quarantining together, sharing more moments of their relationship. This time together inspired several of Mendes’ songs, such as “Summer of Love” and “Wonder”.
In November 2020, they took a major step by adopting a puppy named Tarzan. However, a year later, fans were taken by surprise when they announced their breakup through a joint Instagram statement.
The statement read, “Hey guys, we’ve [decided] to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever ❤️We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward ❤️❤️❤️ Camila and Shawn.”
Since then, both have written several songs reflecting on their breakup, including Mendes’ ‘When You’re Gone,’ which he shared with Cabello before its release.
Mendes, in an April 2022 On Air with Ryan Seacrest interview, emphasised that they remained on good terms after their split, stating, “[We’re] so friendly. I mean, I loved Camila first for so many years, and that’s never gonna change.”
In April 2023, reconciliation rumours emerged when the two were spotted kissing at Coachella. However, neither ever confirmed if they were back together. The two continued to be seen together in the following months, including loading up on the PDA at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in May 2023. Reportedly, the two remained romantically involved until June 2023.
Jocelyne Miranda (2022 – 2023)
View this post on Instagram
Profession: Chiropractor
How did they meet: Unknown
Another one of the rumoured girlfriends of Shawn Mendes was Jocelyn Miranda, his chiropractor, as they were frequently spotted together, enjoying casual outings with friends and sharing dinners in 2022.
They often post pictures of each other on social media, celebrating each other’s wins and birthdays. However, Mendes, who is almost 20 years younger than Miranda, has not commented on their relationship, keeping fans guessing about the nature of their connection.
Sabrina Carpenter (2023)
Profession: Singer
How did they meet: Unknown
The last and also the latest name making it to the dating history of Shawn Mendes is “Espresso” hitmaker Sabrina Carpenter. The pop stars were first snapped together in February 2023, sparking dating speculation.
The two were later seen leaving musician Miley Cyrus’ album release party for “Endless Summer Vacation” together on 10 March.
A few days later, Mendes and Carpenter were spotted at Vanity Fair‘s Oscar party, although they didn’t walk the red carPet as a couple.
Not long after, Entertainment Tonight shared that the two were indeed dating, with a source stating, “Shawn and Sabrina are seeing each other. They have been hanging out a lot and trying to keep things low-key. They were at a birthday party together a couple of weeks ago and were cute together. Shawn is happy.”
Despite this, during an interview with RTL Boulevard to promote his latest collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger, the “Stitches” singer dismissed the dating rumours. “We are not dating,” he told the publication.
Later in August 2024, Carpenter dropped her album ‘Short n’ Sweet’ and fans were quick to speculate that the tracks “Coincidence,” “Sharpest Tool,” “Dumb & Poetic,” and “Taste” were all inspired by her love triangle with Mendes and Cabello.
“Coincidence” has a connection to Mendes kissing Cabello at Coachella 2023: “Your car drove itself from L.A. to her thighs / Palm Springs looks nice, but who’s by your side?”
Similarly, the lyrics of “Taste” are arguably the most obvious, with the chorus repeating: “I heard you’re back together and if that’s true / You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you.”
In October, an annoyed Mendes surprised his followers when he took to X to reply to a whole bunch of tweets, dissecting his relationship with Cabello and Carpenter.
here we go i can do that ♥️
i guess to be honest it came from a place of being a little annoyed with all the projection over the last few months about us. I’m usually pretty good at just watching all the “noise” go by but lately it’s been kinda bugging me ♂️ feeling human i… https://t.co/Kl7vcey8gl

Cabello, in her own way, responded to the chatter, by seemingly recreating the look of Carpenter’s music video on the red carPet of the 2024 MTV VMAs. She also cattily threw shade at the “Please, Please, Please” singer after avoiding the word “taste” during her performance of her hit song “Señorita” at the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
Well, that’s the end of this Hollywood love triangle and, for the time being, Mendes’ dating history.
