Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are Hollywood royalties and their kids may seem to have just hit the ‘good gene’ jackpot. 

Reynolds and Lively tied the knot in 2012 and their journey of parenthood began in December 2014 with the arrival of their eldest daughter, James. Adding to the familial bliss, Inez joined the clan in September 2016, swiftly followed by their third daughter Betty in October 2019.

The Reynolds-Lively family further grew with the quiet arrival of their fourth bundle of joy in early 2023, whose name, gender, and birthdate remain a tantalising mystery to fans worldwide. The couple shared the news of their expanding brood with the world in September 2022. 

Lively later made a cryptic post flashing her flat tummy post-delivery, letting out obvious waves of excitement and speculation. During a discussion at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, Reynolds amusingly quipped about his ‘wild’ daughters: “I’m a parent of three girls. They’re wild. I think they have rabies sometimes.” Yet, amidst the humour, Reynolds often expresses profound adoration for his role as a ‘girl dad’, proclaiming, “I love every second of it.”

Similarly, Lively has shared her journey of self-discovery through motherhood, expressing how it has anchored her sense of self. “I never felt more myself or at ease in my own body or more confident,” she disclosed to Forbes, summing up the transformative power of motherhood.

In a rare family outing, Reynolds and Lively, accompanied by their brood, graced a Wrexham AFC soccer Game in Wales in March 2023, showcasing their support for the team co-owned by Reynolds. In a noteworthy departure from her maternal duties, Lively ventured to Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024 alongside Taylor Swift, a first-time separation from her cherished children. James Reynolds

On 16 December 2014, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds welcomed their first child, a baby girl named James. The unique name was a heartfelt tribute to Reynolds’ late father, James Reynolds, who passed away the same year after their daughter was born. Despite the unconventional choice, Lively and Reynolds humorously downplayed any controversy surrounding the name. Reynolds quipped during a Good Morning Britain appearance in 2020, “In the spectrum of weird Celebrity baby names, I don’t really feel like we’re breaking new ground here.” 

Over the years, James has made occasional public appearances, notably attending her father’s Walk of Fame ceremony in 2018. Initially keeping the name and gender of their child private, Reynolds eventually revealed the name James during an interview on The Today Show in March 2015, joking about his apprehension of potential teenage scrutiny, “Because as we know, little girls turn into teenage girls and little teenage girls sometimes scan through the archives and go, ‘Why did you do that?’”

Her name, Inez, was kept under wraps until several months later. 

The family made their red carPet debut together in December 2016, when Reynolds received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Inez’s name sparked some clarification from Lively in a 2018 interview with People, where she casually mentioned the common mispronunciation and pleaded with Wikipedia for correction. “I had a new baby, Inez, with a ‘z’ even though everyone says it’s with an ‘s.’ I don’t know why,” she said. “Please tell Wikipedia,” she shared.

According to Reynolds, Inez has a bit of a ‘dark side.’ On Live with Kelly and Ryan, the doting dad talked about Inez’s favourite characters. “She’s super into villains. We watch Beauty and the Beast and her favorite character is Gaston.”

In another interview, however, Reynolds shared a funny anecdote in 2018 about Inez’s reaction to his Deadpool costume. He recounted how the costume made her cry, lamenting the inability to immediately reassure her that he was underneath the mask due to the lengthy makeup process.

In May 2023, Lively took James and Inez to see Taylor Swift perform in Philadelphia. The pop star gave a shoutout to the little girls mid-show and shouted, “Hi James! Hi Nezzy!”

Inez Reynolds grew out of her fear of Deadpool and even got a cameo in the 2024 Deadpool & Wolverine movie as Kidpool. Ryan joked that she was the only co-star that he argued with. Betty was also credited in the special thanks of the film as “Hugh Jackman Wrangler”, while his latest baby starred as Babypool.

On 4 October 2019, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds welcomed their third kid, another daughter named Betty. Despite the joyous addition to their family, Lively revealed that their middle child, Inez, initially had reservations about her new sibling, as shared during an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show in 2020. However, the mother encouraged Inez to embrace her role as the older sister, sparking a newfound affection for baby Betty.

While the couple initially kept their daughter’s name under wraps, aunt Taylor Swift spilt the beans in her 2020 song “Betty” from the album Folklore.

Captioning the photo with characteristic charm, she wrote, “Puppy Bowl Sunday 2023🥘 🍲 🥧 been busy.”

Despite the joyous occasion, Lively later took to Instagram and posted a carousel of baby bump photos in the company of Reynolds hinting at the underlying frustration with paparazzi intrusion. “Here are photos of me pregnant in real life so the 11 guys waiting outside my home for a 🦄 sighting will leave me alone,” she candidly expressed in the caption.

While the exact birth date and sex of their fourth mystery baby aren’t revealed yet, Reynolds, in November 2022, playfully confessed his preference for another daughter on The Today Show, drawing on his experiences growing up with three brothers. “I know girls, so I’m kind of hoping that,” he said, jesting about the chaos of sibling dynamics. Reflecting their shared sentiment, Reynolds revealed that they prefer to keep the baby’s gender a surprise until delivery, a tradition they’ve upheld with their previous children.

In June 2023, Reynolds charmingly integrated his youngest kid into the announcement of his new series, Bedtime Stories With Ryan, on Instagram.
