Kansas City Royals in MLB playoffs and Patrick Mahomes is pumped

The Kansas City Royals are heading back to the postseason, and nobody is more fired up than Patrick Mahomes. After a tough few years for the team, this year has been a breath of fresh air. Mahomes, a part-owner of the Royals and a die-hard baseball fan, took to social media to celebrate the team’s success, saying, “Let’s gooo! Congrats! Can’t wait to watch!”

The Royals last saw October baseball back in 2015, when they stormed through the playoffs and took home the World Series title. It’s been nearly a decade since that magic run, but the Royals now hold an 85-75 record and are looking to make a new postseason push.

It’s no surprise Mahomes is so pumped about the Royals’ return to form. Not only does he own a 1% stake in the team, but baseball has been part of his life since he was a kid. Mahomes is not only the son of former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes, but he also played in the Junior League World Series long before he became the face of the Kansas City Chiefs and brought two Super Bowls to town. His passion for the sport runs deep, and now that passion is paying off in a big way.

While Mahomes and Royals fans have every reason to celebrate, the players themselves aren’t resting on their laurels. “This is the moment to take it in,” Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino said, reflecting on the team’s incredible turnaround. “We were really bad last year. This year, we’re really good. And you get kind of emotional thinking about it.”

Kansas City’s transformation from last year’s 106-loss season is nothing short of remarkable. They’ve picked up about 30 more wins than in 2023, completely reversing their trajectory. Royals general manager J.J. Picollo expressed his amazement, saying, “To get to where we were from where we are, there’s so many people involved. So many people played a part in this. To see it all happen is kind of surreal.”

Now, the Royals are set to play in the Wild Card Series as part of the American League playoffs. The team hopes to recapture some of that 2015 magic and make a deep run, maybe even all the way to the World Series again. Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., a key player in this resurgence, said it best: “This is what I dreamed of as a kid. I saw the pictures. I bought the shirts. Now I’m in the pictures. And I have the shirt.”

With a few regular season Games left before the playoffs, the Royals are in position to finish strong. Saturday’s Game against the Atlanta Braves offers a chance to build more momentum before they head into the pressure cooker of postseason baseball.

For Kansas City, this October is already shaping up to be special. And with Mahomes cheering them on, there’s no telling just how far the Royals can go.
