Inter Miami director doesn’t rule out Messi return to Barcelona’s Spotify Camp Nou
First things first: if this story grows legs and start to run, I’ll feel bad for the Barcelona builders. Spotify Camp Nou has been under construction for a long time now, and rumblings at ground level could potentially see the building’s foundations shake like an OutKast polaroid.
That’s what could well happen should Lionel Messi be confirmed to return to the FC Barcelona stadium, which is what has not been ruled out by an executive at his current club, Inter Miami.
Messi’s Barça return? ‘We will talk about it’
Xavier Asensi, the President of Operations at the club, was asked about the potential return of Leo to the Spotify Camp Nou when the club reopen the stadium, and it’s safe to say that his words left lots of wiggle room for Messi to get busy.
To be clear, Asensi did not confirm Messi’s return, citing “a scheduling issue” as the main difficulty. “The 2020 match was part of the tour we were able to prepare for”, he told Mundo Deportivo, “since we played the Leagues Cup, we don’t have the visibility of the possibility of a friendly.”
“In January or December, we can’t know if it will fit into the calendar. If I imagine Messi at the inauguration of the new Camp Nou? It depends on when it is... We will talk about it,” said the director.
When will the Spotify Camp Nou reopen?
Spotify Camp Nou is set to reopen in November this year. Specifically, the 19th of November is the date for the ceremony, which is the 125th anniversary of the club.
Whether Messi will be there or not, we’re not sure, but what we’re certain about is that if there are more words spoken from either club about the possibility of the Argentine returning then those looking after the renovations need to tighten their hard hats.
For now, you can follow Messi run riot in Leagues Cup once again as Inter Miami look to defend their 2023 title. Catch the action on AS USA.
