Friday Announcement Could Benefit Matt O’Riley
In an encouraging development for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, Kasper Hjulmund has today resigned from his post as manager of the Denmark national team.
It comes after the Scandinavians were eliminated from the recent European Championships at the last 16 stage having not won a Game all tournament.
Much like losing finalists England, Denmark was criticised for their lack of innovation in attack; they scored just twice in Germany.
Hjulmund heeded much of the reproval and was shot down for parts of his squad selection. His omission of O’Riley seemed nonsensical because, before the Euros, the 23-year-old was in the form of his life.
Just off the back of a sensational Celtic season where he contributed to 37 goals across all comPetitions, O’Riley was primed and ready for a chance on the big stage.
Hjulmund refused to grant him his opportunity and paid the price.
Former Celtic midfielder Morten Wieghorst has replaced the departing boss on a short-term basis, with O’Riley looking forward to a fresh start with the national team where he may well get picked, played, and recognised for his club exploits.
