Celtic are asking for €10m, which equates to around £8.3m, to sanction the permanent sale of Alexnadro Bernabei, according to a report from South American outlet Portal Colorado.

Bernabei’s loan club, Internacional, wants to sign him permanently after a string of impressive performances but are facing difficulty as they seek to do so.

The player wants the move, but Internacional aren’t willing to meet Celtic’s hefty price tag. They hope Bernabei’s wishes, though, could help soften negotiations with the Scottish Premiership champions.

The possibility of extending Bernabei’s loan into 2025 hasn’t been ruled out, either. The 24-year-old is eager to play in the next Copa Libertadores with his club and wants to stay with them.

Latest Developments are Unsurprising

Given Bernabei’s recent form, these latest developments don’t come as much of a shock.

The Argentine is quickly moulding himself into one of the best left-backs in Brazil’s top flight and has registered five goal contributions in each of his last five appearances.

Further, Bernabei has been named Man of the Match in Internacional’s last two Games.

While Celtic’s asking fee is rather steep, Bernabei is still a talented young player who, in one of South America’s top leagues, has shown his potential and exponential room for improvement.

In addition, his contract at Parkhead runs until the summer of 2027.

Whatever fee the Hoops eventually sell Bernabei for, they will hope it eclipses the £3.75m [Sky Sports] they shelled out on him in 2022.
