Celtic have been told to sign Motherwell’s Lennon Miller after his performance against the Hoops on Sunday.

The teenage midfielder stood out, particularly in the game’s infancy, as he rattled the woodwork twice, causing a few early scares for the Bhoys.

Still just 18, Miller is arguably the best young player in Scotland at the minute. He won’t be short of potential suitors in January or next summer.

Pundit Tam McManus, though, thinks Celtic should move for the teenager regardless of the competition and price tag: “I think he’ll break (Motherwell’s) transfer record,” he said (PLZ Soccer).

“At 18 years old, I watched him closely yesterday for the first 25 minutes; the positions he takes, his body position, his ability on the ball, his shot off the post, his free-kick off the bar, he is one of the best young players I’ve seen in a while.

“He’s the best young player in Scotland for me.

“If you’re Celtic, you go in after the game and you ask them how much they want for him. He was that good. If you’re Brendan Rodgers or the Celtic board, you go into Motherwell, and you ask them ‘how much do you want for Lennon Miller?’

“They’ve got the money to go and buy him. Even if you loan him back to Motherwell for a season. He’s a fantastic young player. Something about him just screams quality. If you’re Celtic, you’ve got to ask how much they want for him.”

Celtic Must Ask The Question

Brendan Rodgers loves developing young talent, and Miller is the hottest prospect in Scottish football right now.

Regardless of the fee, the positives of a move for the centre-mid, who already plays with a maturity way beyond his age, majorly outweigh the negatives.

Miller will only improve as the years go by, and while the Hoops currently have a wealth of strength in depth in the middle of the park, securing the long-term services of one of the league’s top talents would be a wise move that almost all fans would support.

As McManus suggests, it could be smart to loan the Scotland under-21 internationalist back to Motherwell for a period after signing him permanently to continue his development.

While the Scottish Premiership is by no means a great standard league, signing players from it has proved prosperous for Celtic in the past; take Luke McCowan right now, for example. He was one of the Bhoys’ standout performers on Sunday and was only signed for £1m from Dundee.

Rodgers will undoubtedly have noticed Miller’s eye-catching performance at the weekend and should consider moving for the youngster in January or perhaps next summer.
