“Rein myself in” – Luke McCowan’s Humble Celtic Dressing Room Stance
Celtic midfielder Luke McCowan has had to ‘rein himself in’ since joining the Hoops, remaining a reserved figure in the dressing room.
Signing for the Bhoys from Dundee, McCowan was a key figure at Dens Park and the club’s captain.
Humbly, though, when he moved to Glasgow, he admitted he didn’t go into the Celtic dressing room as the same boisterous figure that left the Dundee one: “I’m not going to go in there shouting and bawling, these guys are league winners,” he said (RecordSport).
“I need to learn off them first and then, through that, I’ll find my voice and whatever.
“I need to rein myself in, I just need to bide my time with that. We’ve got an amazing captain [and] an amazing manager whose voice is huge in there.
“There are about 11 players in there who have good voices and show me what I need to do within the Game and within the team.
“As I said, there are league winners in the changing room, I can’t go in and start demanding things. They’ve already put a demand on themselves, they’re demanding of me now, so I’ll find my voice through time.”
Fresh off the back of his first Celtic start, the 26-year-old very much caught the eye against Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday.
McCowan opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark, beating his man before firing the ball into the bottom right corner from outside the box.
Limited to minutes from the bench before Sunday, the ex-Dundee man did himself no harm with his performance, which gives manager Brendan Rodgers another selection dileMMA ahead of Wednesday night.
Although there is vast comPetition for places in the Hoops’ midfield at the minute, McCowan will be desperate to keep his place in the team for the visit of his former club, Dundee, to Parkhead tomorrow evening.
In his appearances up to this point, whether domestically or in Europe, the central midfielder has seamlessly slotted in, and as the Celts prepare for three matches in three different comPetitions over the next week, McCowan will undoubtedly have a key role to play.
