Fabrizio Romano revealed negotiations are now underway to find a solution that satisfies both Celtic and Atalanta for the sale of Matt O’Riley. The Italian club has sent a bid worth €17/18m package for the Danish international, but Celtic are holding out for a higher fee.

O’Riley has been attracting interest from a number of clubs across Europe, including Juventus, Atletico Madrid, and Roma. The 23-year-old was Celtic’s Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, and Young Player of the Year last season, scoring 19 goals and assisting 18 times in 49 appearances.

Despite the interest from other clubs, Celtic are determined to keep hold of O’Riley, who still has three years left on his contract at Parkhead. The Scottish champions are reportedly seeking a fee in the region of £25-30m for the midfielder, which would make him their most expensive sale ever.

The Italian club could be the ones to tempt Celtic into a sale. The Serie A side have already made three bids for the midfielder, with the latest worth €17/18m package.

Celtic fans will be hoping that the club can hold onto O’Riley for one more season, as Brendan Rodgers’ side look to be more comPetitive in Europe. The Danish international has been a key player for the Hoops since arriving from MK Dons in under Ange Postecoglou, and his departure would be a significant blow to the club’s ambitions.

As negotiations continue, it remains to be seen whether Atalanta will meet Celtic’s valuation of the midfielder or if another club will swoop in with a higher offer. For now, O’Riley remains a Celtic player.
