Donovan Mitchell Next Team Odds: 'Spida' Can Decide Between East or West Coast
The Cleveland Cavaliers were quickly bounced from the NBA playoffs by the Boston Celtics and it didn't take long for Donovan Mitchell's next team odds to appear. While ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski has said that Mitchell is "happy in Cleveland" he ticks all the boxes for a guy on his way out. He's a superstar in the last year of his deal on a small-market squad that isn't quite a title contender.
Mitchell is expected to sign an extension with the Cavs since they can offer him the most money, but that doesn't rule out a trade to another team and there are plenty of suitors for the five-time All-Star.
Topping that list is the Los Angeles Lakers and it's no surprise that the Miami Heat aren't far behind with Pat Riley always willing to do what it takes to improve his roster.
With the NBA rumor mill already churning out plenty of speculation here are the NBA odds for Donovan Mitchell's next team.

Favorites to be Donovan Mitchell's next team
Los Angeles Lakers (+300)
The only thing more common than LeBron James rumors is speculation as to which players will team up with King James. The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly made Donovan Mitchell their No. 1 trade target which isn't surprising given how well he would fit on the team. With Anthony Davis down low and James becoming more of a facilitator at this stage of his career, a shot-creator and floor-spacer like Mitchell would likely make them title favorites.
But while a trade for Mitchell would make perfect sense for the Lakers, it doesn't for the Cavs. There are reports that Cavs owner Dan Gilbert "would never" trade Mitchell to the Lakers, and beyond bad blood there isn't much the Lakers could offer in return. L.A. simply doesn’t have the draft picks or players to stack up against other suitors.
Brooklyn Nets (+400)
The Brooklyn Nets are right behind the Lakers on the odds board which might be a bit surprising until you consider that Mitchell grew up in New York. The Nets have salary cap flexibility moving forward and after trading away Kevin Durant they have several future first-round picks to dangle. That said, if Mitchell is frustrated with the makeup of his team in Cleveland it's tough to see him any happier with a Nets squad that likely wouldn't be a serious contender even if they added him.

Miami Heat (+500)
In addition to La-La Land, South Beach always seems like a viable destination for disgruntled stars. Before being dealt to Cleveland in 2022, Mitchell seemed destined for Miami. The Miami Heat clawed their way to the NBA finals in 2020 and 2023 but weren't good enough to get over the hump. Mitchell would give them a Big 3 alongside Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo before their championship window closes.
The Heat have some enticing pieces to make this work, including Tyler Herro, Jaime Jacquez Jr., and Nikola Jovic. Mitchell also has a close friendship with Adebayo and Miami is high on his list of destinations according to Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus. And let's not kid ourselves, South Florida seems like a more attractive home base than Ohio.
New York Knicks (+675)
The home-town angle also works for the New York Knicks and like the Heat, they've been linked to Spida for years. The Knicks got knocked out by the Pacers in the Eastern Conference semifinals but having Mitchell take pressure off Jalen Brunson would be huge.
That backcourt would make them instant contenders, especially if they manage to re-sign O.G. Anunoby as their third option. The Knicks have a strong combination of players and picks to offer Cleveland and he could be the final piece they need to return to the finals.

Houston Rockets (+5,000)
It's a bit surprising to see the Houston Rockets so low on this list considering that reports suggest that they have a high level of interest in him. According to Kelly Iko of The Athletic. "the Houston Rockets have maintained interest in All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell for months and continue to monitor his situation in Cleveland."
The Rockets have never been shy about taking on salary and while they missed the playoffs this season, they were comPetitive and have a talented young core. They also have the No. 3 selection in the upcoming draft and several other young players and picks that could possibly provide the best trade package for Mitchell. While they don't look quite ready to comPete for a title, adding Mitchell would speed up their rebuild.
