DC United v Celtic; Everything You Need to Know
Celtic are in the USA as preparations for the new 2024/25 season continue. The Hoops have three friendlies to play in the States, the first of which comes this weekend against DC United.
Troy Lessesne’s side is already more than halfway through their league season and currently sits 11th out of 15 teams in the Eastern Conference of the MLS.
Given DC’s match sharpness, the match will be a useful test for Brendan Rodgers’ men.
Day and Time
The Game takes place this Sunday the 21st of July in the UK. Kick-off is at half past midnight.
Over in the US where the match is being played, kick-off is at 7.30 pm ET on Saturday 20th July.
Venue
The hotly anticipated friendly is being played at Audi Field. Home to DC United, the stadium was opened in 2018 and holds 20,000 people.
TV and Stream
In the UK, the Game can only be viewed on Celtic TV.
Team News
Maik Nawrocki wasn’t in the squad for last week’s Queen’s Park friendly after coming off injured against Ayr. His fitness levels remain unclear, similar to Gustaf Lagerbielke.
New signing Viljami Sinisalo will likely be in contention for this one given he Travelled with the team to the US. Kapser Schmeichel is only heading out to the States now, so one assumes he won’t play.
Finally, bhoys who returned to pre-season late due to international commitments will be available for the first time in 2024/25 this weekend, providing Brendan Rodgers with a strong pool of players to pick from.
Watching Celtic in the early hours of Sunday morning will feel strange. Those who stay up will want a result and performance worthy of losing some sleep over.
