It’s getting to that point of the Glasgow Derby build-up where pundits and former players predict who will win the match, Celtic or Rangers.

Both clubs will be desperate to pick up the three points as they bid to get access to the automatic millions the Champions League group stage place gives alongside the winner’s medal.

For Celtic, victory pretty much seals the title. For Rangers, a win would mean taking the title race to the last two Games of the season and the opportunity to nab those millions on offer so that they can close the financial gap on the Parkhead club.

And leading up to the game, Chris Sutton has offered his prediction on who he believes is going to win the crunch fixture. But with a caveat.

Sutton ‘not convinced’ with Celtic defence

The former Celtic hero is one of the club’s biggest fans but can also be one of its biggest critics when required.

So when this prediction was made, the supporters will understand why it was made with a note of caution.

Sutton said [Record Celtic podcast], “I would just err on the Celtic side to win the Game. But Mick touched on Celtic from set plays and cross balls and I’m still not convinced.

“My head tells me this season Celtics performances, however good Hearts was for 90 minutes, how many times this season have Celtic gone back to back with really strong performances in consecutive Games?

“I can’t think of many.”

Whilst Sutton has a point, the reason why Celtic haven’t been able to string two decent performances together is mainly because of the injury issues they have suffered over the course of this season.

Now that Rodgers has a full compliment of players to choose from, Celtic’s performances have looked much improved and the fans will be confident of another display like they saw against Hearts at the weekend.

Like every Celtic supporter, I will be hoping that we get the three points Brendan Rodgers takes us one step closer to our third title in a row.
