Kim Tae-yong is loved by fans for his unique storytelling styles in films like Memento Mori (1999), Family Ties (2006), and the English remake Late Autumn (2010). After experimenting across genres and several short films later, the filMMAker is all set to impress the fans with his new offering starring Bae Suzy. Titled Wonderland, the Korean movie is up for a release in June and here is everything you need to know about the film.

The idea to make Wonderland was coined in June 2019 by Kim Tae-yong, who has also written the screenplay of the film. He directed a film after 9 years, after his last directorial, Late Autumn, in 2010. The Korean sci-fi fantasy film will be released worldwide except in South Korea and China. The story is set in a virtual world called Wonderland.

The release date of Wonderland

The film is slated to be released on 5 June 2024. The film’s distributors, Acemaker Movieworks and Netflix reached an agreement to release the film worldwide on the streaming platform. A contract with Netflix for about 30 per cent of post-production costs was signed by the distributors.

What is the plot of Wonderland?

Wonderland is a virtual world created for people to reunite with a person they may not meet again. This is made possible by simulating them through artificial intelligence. When a woman, who is in her 20s, gets to know about Wonderland, she requests to meet her lover, who is in a coma. Another man in his 40s requests to meet his deceased wife.

Who are all a part of the cast?

Park Bo-gum will be seen as a man in his 20s. Bae Suzy will be seen as a woman in her 20s. Jung Yu-mi will essay the role of the coordinator of Wonderland along with Choi Woo-shik. Tang Wei will essay the role of a woman in her 40s. The supporting cast includes Son Kyung-won and Jeon Su-ji as Jung-in’s senior. Gong Yoo will be seen as a man in his 40s and Choi Moo-sung will have a special appearance in the film.

The shooting locations of Wonderland

The principal photography of Wonderland began in April 2020. The film was shot in studios in Paju, Gyeonggi Province and Jeonju. The shooting was concluded in September 2020, except for some scenes featuring Tang Wei. He shot for the remaining scenes in January 2021.
