Add These New K-Dramas to Your August 2024 Watch List
August is set to be an entertaining month for fans as exciting K-dramas are set to drop this month. If you are looking for recommendations for your next bingeing session, here are some from romances and thrillers to historical and courtroom dramas upcoming in August 2024.
While July surprised Korean drama fans with revenge shows like Red Swan, the upcoming August 2024 line-up will entertain viewers with romances like Love Next Door and No Pain No Gain. The former, a Studio Dragon production, stars Prison Playbook fame Jung Hae-in and Love Reset star Jung So-min in leading roles. Directed by Yoo Je-won, Love Next Door is a feel-good story about two childhood friends turning into lovers.
Meanwhile, No Pain No Gain will see the return of rom-com queen Shin Min-ah to the silver screen. Known for hit titles like Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha (2021) and Our Blues (2022), Shin will portray the role of an ordinary office employee struggling to balance her personal and professional life. One of the most-awaited upcoming K-dramas, No Pain No Gain premieres on Prime Video on 26 August 2024.
Additionally, Sweet Home season 3 fame Go Min-si will draw star power to Netflix’s upcoming August 2024 suspense thriller The Frog. Directed by The World of The Married director Mo Wan-il, according to the OTT, The Frog revolves around the owner of a rural hotel and the people living around it, “whose lives are thrown into turmoil by the arrival of a Mysterious guest in the middle of summer.”
Not to forget the upcoming Apple TV Plus show Pachinko season 2, which stars K-drama heartthrob Lee Min-ho in the leading role. The hit show’s first season was an instant success and received eleven international awards, including a Critics Choice Award and a Gotham Independent Film Award. One of the best upcoming period K-dramas to release in August 2024, the second instalment of Pachinko promises to delve deeper into protagonist Sunja’s (played by Kim Min-ah) relationship with Koh Hansu (Lee), a Zainichi Korean merchant.
