‘Absolutely brilliant’… What pleased Brendan Rodgers about Celtic’s ‘historical’ weekend
As the build-up to the Scottish Cup final continues, Brendan Rodgers has taken time to reflect on what has been an excellent week for Celtic.
I’m not going to do that thing and count our title wins but the Celtic fans did enjoy the 54th championship win in our history which saw incredible scenes of joy spread across Glasgow city centre on Saturday night.
The parties from Trophy Day continued long into Sunday and beyond but now, it seems, that the team is now completely focused on beating Rangers this Saturday to retain the Scottish Cup.
However, despite the big build-up, the Celtic manager took time to reflect not just on the men’s team’s achievement, but also on what the Celtic Women did.
Rodgers hails ‘historical’ Celtic Women
Elena Sadiku led the Celtic Women to becoming champions of Scotland for the first time in their History. And in a stunning twist of fate, after Celtic lost out on the title to a last-minute goal last season, winning it in the same fashion must have made it so much sweeter for them.
And Brendan Rodgers admits he was extremely proud of what they achieved.
Rodgers said [Celtic YouTube], “I was so so happy and it wouldn’t matter if Celtic was playing tiddly-winks we want Celtic to win.
“However I was so honoured to be there and with my family with me.
“I thought the women played really, really well. Their tactical idea in the Game was very good.
“I really enjoyed the Game because the women are so honest to the Game. How they play, how they give everything and obviously knowing what the result was in the other Game and knowing that we had to win it to be done what is a typical Celtic way was absolutely brilliant.
“And could see everyone was celebrating and cheering.
“And obviously for Elena, her staff and the players, it was a real historical moment.
“So it was an absolutely brilliant weekend and as I said, capped off by the women’s win.”
It really was an incredible achievement by the women. Runners up on no less than four occasions the women finally got the title over the line for the first time ever.
The league trophy now sits proudly beside the Scottish Cup for a few days now and next season will be massive for Celtic as we watch both the women’s and men’s sides look to defend their domestic dominance and make an assault on the Champions League.
